i love food!! yesterday we went to the most amazing place for hot chocolate. it was really fancy with gold and mirrors everywhere and justin would barely go in cause apparently while it's also the best hot chocolate in paris it's also the most expensive. it WAS good - i got a chocolate macaroon which wasn't AT ALL like they are in the US - they're made with almonds. the chocolate was undescribable - kinda like really really rich liquidated chocolate. today we went to this place called "le paris" and the most amazing milkshake i've ever had. we also went to this thai place and had lots of really yummy courses of food. although it kinda set my mouth on fire.
justin and i took the train in with philippa and guillaume and eli to paris where we met up with jenna and jess. while we were waiting for them to show up, eli and philippa decided that they wanted to run across that huge intersection that surrounds the arc de triomphe. only if you've ever seen it or pictures of it from the air you know that it's absolutely insane. cars everywhere, swerving and going in different directions and no traffic lights or crosswalks. so they got across okay...nearly getting hit about 80 times. i was more hesitant and when i started to cross this loud whistle went off and this police lady called me over. she said i had to go underground to get to the arc. in french. and then i felt stupid. but it was funny - another thing to add to my resume in france...i've now been yelled at by the police. soo after that we went shopping on the champs-elysees and it was so cool - i loved everything we saw in the stores! and we put these really sparkly pink and blue scarves on eli and justin and took fabulous pictures of them. we went to all these insanely expensive stores and looked at all the prices - i saw a necklace for 63,000 euros. that wasn't even very pretty. but there were a lot of pretty necklaces that were insanely expensive.
i have to go cause we haven't eaten yet...and justin says if i don't come downstaits NOW he's gonna kick my ass. haha

    monday
today i woke up at 10 and tried to read more of A Tale of Two Cities....then justin asked if i wanted to go to paris with jessica and jenna. which of course i did. so we took a train to versailles and then a bus across versailles and another train to paris and got lost in the train station. we finally found jenna and jess and then promptly got lost in paris...we were with 2 french people who couldn't find their way around france. we were RIGHT at the sacre coeur and they didn't think that we were cause neither of them has ever been there. jenna had to ask a tourist if we were actually at the sacre coeur. and we were. then we had lunch at this sandwich stand which was really good. we ate out in front of the sacre coeur next to this merry-go-round. and then we decided to go on it and after MUCH convincing justin agreed to go too. i have pictures!! it was soo funny cause we looked so stupid. then we went to the place de la concorde and les invalides. the only thing that justin knew about was where the US embassy was and jenna and i debated going in and asking why there are all these stupid poles in the sidewalk that eli keeps walking into. i love paris - i took pictures of the catholic boy scouts and the car show thing that justin was interested in. and we watched all the people and playing a game and tried to spot all the "yo"s. there are certainly some interesting fashions - like the guy i saw with skintight jeans and striped washes and fringe along the sides. yeahh so we came home and i've been reading a bit more and hanging out with julie and justin and hbe keeps taking pictures and filming me as i type this...it's quite annoying. i have to go now...justin is yelling at us to come eat dinner.

    saturday
yesterday was good - i was woken up by justin carrying a bag of ice into my room and putting it on my face. which he thought was hilarious and i thought was VERY cold. i think he's gonna do that again so i need to sleep with my eyes open all the time. i woke up at 12:15. justin's dad made breakfast for all of us which consisted of eggs and chili and the boys' addition - a bottle of alcoholic cider. it was a splendid breakfast. jenna and i hung out all day. i brought her to the train station all by myself cause justin got 1.5hrs of sleep and had no voice. i was so proud of myself cause unlike the day before i hadn't gotten lost. jessica, who was supposed to meet us there, did though. so justin had to come and find us anyways. i hate not having a cellphone.
last night was the rallye. i got all dressed up and so did justin and his family took pictures and it was so cute. he was kinda nervous about going cause he didn't know how to do what they call "rock," a type of dancing that is exclusive to versailles rallyes. there were 4 americans and 150 french people there which was a bit intimidating. we had to have anais let us in the door and everyone's name was on a list that was checked at the door. very exclusive. it was hard to migle with the french people considering i didn't know how to dance rock and didn't speak their language but it was still soo much fun. i danced with doudou and justin and some other guys which was awesome, there are so many variations of rock and cause they guy leads he develops his own unique dance. so every time i danced it was slightly different. and i messed up and looked stupid and laughed and jsut kept twirling. it was too loud to understand the french and no one minded at all. i are salmon tartlets and brownies with gold beads on them and cake and mini ice cream cones and what i think was a prune filled with mint icing. the event ended at 12:30 but i think we stayed till about 1:30 and then went home. i wish i had brought my camera cause no one in the US would have ever been caught dead doing this sort of dancing but again this was kind of an exclusive party and NOT for tourists so there was no way i could have. i can't really describe it the dancing. it's sorta like 50's dancing but not. it's to modern music that has a strong beat and there's lots of spinning around. it looks so professional and fun that i really couldn't stop staring at the other amazing dancers and just beaming when i was dancing. when someone asks you to dance they just hold out their right hand and you take it with your right. then you spin a few times, once in one direction and then in the opposite and back again. then it varies and you never really know what to expect.
i wish we had rallyes in the US cause they are awesome and even justin, who says he hates these events, had an awesome time.
i'm soo excited that a lot of you are back home and are emailing me!! thanks so much...i miss you guys and i really want to hear about your trips! good luck with school tomorrow!!

    friday
back again! now on to friday. we spent the day in paris which was so much fun! except that elbow kinda told jenna and i that both teachers were NOT happy with us and that we had one day to fix our attitudes and speak more french and talk to the other americans more often. that was kind of a pain. we went all the way up the eiffel tower which was AMAZING and i almost fell off the side cause i was laughing so hard with jenna. i figured out how to make my camera take panoramic pictures from the top so those should be cool. we had a "picnic lunch" which meant that again i didn't bring food to eat and stood in line for 35 minutes at this crepe outdoor stand and ate the most amazing chocolate banana crepe EVER. just thinking about it makes me hungry. everyone always wonders why europeans are so skinny. well i think i've figured it out. first of all the hills here are insane and i feel like i can't take another step and then we're only halfway there and it's about to get steeper. AND they don't snack. seriously. they just don't eat between meals. no drinks, no water, nothing. so i've learned to eat a lot at meals and nothing in between. well sorta learned as in i don't really have a choice. we went on a bateau down the seine which was really cool cause as always i love boats. i was wearing these giant dior sunglasses of jenna's which i'm sure looked extremely stupid on me but it was so funny that i didn't care.
after school we had to start getting ready for justin's party. he had to go talk to a friend so he told jenna and me to meet him at the train station. only we weren't exactly paying attention to where we were going and i'm terrible at directions so we went to the wrong station. and we were meeting justin there to catch a train that was about to leave. sooo we asked for directions every 10 steps and finally got there. i felt kinda badly cause we missed the train and justin had been frantically looking for me cause we were like 3o minutes late. when we got back to his town we met up with 3 of his friends and went to the store to buy food for the party. i also found out that justin had gotten in trouble with his teachers for not speaking english and he's been threatened to get kicked off his next exchange. all cause i'd rather have a meaningful conversation with him in english vs. "bonjour. je m'appelle Heather" in french.
the party was awesome - french parties are like dances in the US but with no chaperones and drinking and smoking is legal. i met all of justin's friends and had soo much fun. perhaps my favorite thing was that jenna and i brought out our berets again and his extremely drunk friend vincent wore my pink one all evening. afterwards jenna slept over and a friend of julie's and 8 of justin's friends. the boys had my beret all night and apparently they made this huge vat of various alcoholic beverages and accidentally dropped my beret in it. nasty.

    thursday
ok time for another long update. i've been so incredibly busy and if you want to talk to me on MSN (i don't have AIM here) you need to remember that it's a 6 hour time difference so right now it's noon here but 6 AM at home.
so...i'm trying to remember what's happened in the past few days. thursday we went to the interior of the chateau de versailles and froze our asses off before we got there. because our stupid teachers didn't know which entrance to use and kept getting lost. i loved the chateau as much as the first time, perhaps even more cause jenna was there. got into a bit of a disagreement with elbow about why i didn't want to spend an hour looking at the grand chapel cause i've already seen it before. she rolled her eyes at olsen and they were annoyed again. they were both in horrible moods to the point where i was actually a bit alarmed. soo then we went back to the school and met the french students to eat lunch there, which actually wasn't that bad considering it was school food. then i wasn't scheduled for a class cause they teachers just simply forgot about me so justin said i could come to physics with his class, which was really cool cause i really hadn't been going to class with him a whole lot. jenna and i told 2 americans to tell the teachers taht we were going to a different class and they unfortunately didn't soo we got in a shitload of trouble. i've never seen olsen so mad. she came stalking down the hall at the gym with justin behind her singing, "heather, you're in TROUBLE! here comes the teacher!" so basically i'm selfish and i don't think of the group and irresponsible. i skipped watching a french movie to go to physics class. wow what a rebel. it was really fun though i had trouble keeping quiet. and i understood a lot of what they were saying!!
for some reason they thought it's be fun to schedule us to go along with their 2 hour gym class in the afternoon. we had 2 choices - to play volleyball or go to this course orientation thing where you had to use a map and find certain markers in the forest and run a lot. since i can't play volleyball cause of my tendonitis, i did the course orientation and i was the only american with about 40 french people. justin went with 2 of his friends and was all sporty and fast while i went with marjo at a slower pace. i'm really quite out of shape. after school i went with justin to play badminton for another 2 hours of physical fitness. it was intense. badminton is seriously one of the few sports the school offers which is hilarious. i'm kinda forgetting what we did that night and so is justin but i'm sure it was interesting.

    I love france!!
today was awesome - school didn't start until 9 so i got to sleep in to 7. on the way to school i discovered that i was supposed to have been at school for an 8 am class....whoops!
this school is so disorganized that it's actually funny. my first class (technically my second scheduled one) was in a classroom that didn't exist with a teacher who wasn't there. soo justin was really late to class and tried to bring me to german with him - his teacher sent me to this other class where there were a bunch of other americans. the teacher was the same one that i had in economics on monday and she was happy to have us all there. the students were 18 and 19 and weren't as comforable with their english as out students are. we asked each other questions and played games where they had to talk tin english and we had to talk in french. it was really cool cause i knew exactly how they felt - it's really hard to speak the lanuage even if you can comprehend a ton of it. after, i went to a history class with jenna and the teacher spoke no english during the class nor could she speak any english perios. she talked really fast and i could understand her but only if i concentrated really hard - so instead jenna and i wrote notes on the back of my schedule. they were talking about right and left stuff with politics - stuff that doudou has kinda explained to me before. i keep kinda running off when justin turns his back so today he would bring me to a classroom and go "okay. STAY HERE until i get back." i was then scheduled for the nonexistant class again and jenna and i decided to go to versailles. justin told us we couldn't at first but jessica said it was fine for jenna to go so he caved in and gave me his phone. so the two of us went exploring in versailles for an hour while they were in class. we strolled around and ate lion bars the whole time and didn't get lost! then it was the end of the day and justin was happy to see that we were back well within the time limits that he had set. and mme albeck and olsen don't know so we're not even in trouble!! jenna and i were sitting down in the entryway waiting for jessica and philipppa and justin and anais and marjo to come out of class and mme albeck came over and was like, "why are you always sitting alone?" (in french - everything she says is) and i had to respond that we prefer to be with the french students ever the americans (in french). she then started bothering me about whether or not i speak french at home with my family. i told her yes and she went and asked justin the same thing - luckily he said yes too. i don't understand why our teachers think i'm such a behavioral issue. after that little encounter a bunch of us went out to lunch and i ordered my own meal in french! every time i use french it's exciting cuz first of all: 1. they talk fast 2. they think i'm french cuz they hear the french students talking. so if i pull it off i'm very proud. justin had to go to a tennis lesson so i stayed with the other students all afternoon - then i took the train home ALL BY MYSELF!! that was fun - i was terrified of getting lost but i didn't. philippa brought me to the station and after i got off the train justin made me wait for him at the station. he's quite concerned with losing me. haha. now he understands how i feel! we had fish AGAIN for dinner which was pretty good actually - i thought i'd never say it. and then i helped justin with his english paper and now i'm sitting in the 3rd floor hallway on the floor with the american laptop and justin has just come and hit me on the head as he passed by. i'm having such a good time!

    in france!!!!
heyy so i'm back on a normal keyboard...thank goodness justin's family has lived in the US. i went to sleep at like 8:30 last night which was awesome cuz i got 10 hours of sleep. yesterday was really cool - i went to school for the first time in france. we took the train and i got to use my carte orange for the first time...justin didn't quite tell me how to use it so i caused a bit of a blockup to the morning train station traffic but he came back to help me. their school is very french - i guess i ddin't realize how different some things are here. we went to economics class which was fun. the french students had to answer a questionnaire about the US and we had to answer one about france. the first part was just sad cuz it asked about the french government and we knew nothing wheras they knew soo much about the US...even if a few of them insisted that there were 52 states. we had to name 10 famous people from france and all of ours were poets and authors and artists...theirs were all from pop culture and they had madonna and britney spears. sooo after economics i was scheduled to go to some advanced english class with some other american but when justin brought me to the classroom they were having this huge test and we couldn't even go in. he brought us to the library and told us to stay there for an hour. i told him i wasn't going to do that but he apparently thought i wasn't serious. i was...i made the other american come with me to look for one of our teachers. we just wandered around the school and got lost and found the administration office, where i soon discovered that NO ONE spoke english. that was interesting - especially when i addressed and adult using "tu." whoops. then we went back to the library and got on the internet, which is where my last post came from. i just didn't have enough energy or brainpower to use that stupid keyboard. justin came looking for us and we weren't where he had left us so he kinda freaked out and went looking for us everywhere...he told his teacher that he came to class late because there was an american loose in the school. haha yes i'm the crazy american who got lost. then they just stuck a bunch of us in a room cause there's no room in class for us and we watched a movie in french. only it was really boring so i went to sleep. ms albeck didn't like that at all. in the afternoon we went to the gardens at versailles and walked around a whole lot...they were really pretty only i had just gone there the day before.
today was really fun - we went to paris all day! while we were walking ain the morning this guy was opening up his store front and pulling abck the security bars and it made a really loud souns - i kinda screamed and eli and jenna thought it was HILARIOUS. we climbed the notre dame which was cool cuz i've never actually been inside but then we went to like a million other churches too. and let me tell you - once you've seen a few you've seen them all. don't get me wrong - they're all amazing and gorgeous but i didn't want to keep seeing the same thing all the time. we had our first bit of free time while we've been with the teachers - we got to go get lunch by ourselves!! jenna and i got sandwiches at the croissanterie and chocolates after it. i had to order in french and i still don't know what "to go" means - they said it so fast that all i could do was look blankly at them till they tried to speak enlgish. at the chocolaterie the guy was so cute - he had the wierdest glasses EVER - they looked like they were upside down and he sang as he wrapped up our truffles. i was really hyper and i really couldn't stop laughing all day. but some pretty funny things happened. for instance, ms albeck fell off the sidewalk and grabbed onto a french teacher and they almost fell into this huge piece of glass that was leaning on a building. also, the teachers have decided that i'm the problem on the trip. yeah right. they were saying that i don't speak french that much which is actually true but it pisses me off that they have to accuse ONLY me of it. so ms oslen was eavesdropping on me all day and when i tried to talk to ms albeck ing english she SPANKED me. that is not an experience i ever wish to repeat and i will now only speak to her in french. always. i've set a trend...everyone loves my favorite european candy! (green apple mentos and lion bars) jenna and i have been wanting to buy berets and walk around looking stupid and today we found some. i bought a pink one that says paris on it and she bought a purple one. we wore them the whole way back to versailles and got all these strange looks. what i wanted to see was justin's face when he saw his insane american "corres" as they call us in french. he was horrified and went, "no, no!" and tried to take it off my head. everyone was laughing so hard and then i wore his boston hat and he wore my pink beret for a bit. i want to wear it tomorrow cuz it looksso stupid and funny but justin will disown me. he says i have no sense of shame. but he has given it abck to me....he kinda confiscated it when i refused to take it off on the bus to his piano lesson.
so if you know me you rpobably know that i'm not the biggest fan of seafood. as in i've never eaten it. and i don't want to. but sunday night they served shrimp and ristoto...his dad['s specialty and not only did i eat it but i had seconds. i was very proud of myself. and tonight we had avacado and shrimp cocktail...which i also ate every bit of. i also had a chocolate hamburger - justin's dad does a lot with french/english trading for places like costco, starbucks, trader joe's, whole foods, etc. and today he went to this amazing chocolate factory and he got all these samples. he wanted to know what i liked cuz i'm an american and he's trying to sell to the american market. it was awesome.
anyways, i think i've said enough for tonight, even though i think i could keep going for awhile yet. hope your vacations are going well!

    FRANCE
    Heyyy everyone!!

I'm in france and running on 3 hours of sleep since yesterday morning at 7:30....which isn't too painful. what will be bad is waking up tomorrow at 7, feeling like it's one in the morning. also i'm a bit worried about how Justin is gonna wake me up. Today was good - well it's all kinda blended in with yesterday into one big day of fun. this place is amazing - it's like in the movies with one of those quaint little french towns and all the tiny streets and the walls around the houses and stucco walls and ivy. on the way back from the airport we stopped at this bakery and it was soo cute. it was a tiny little store and there was only enough space for people to stand in line to pay. i had my first real french croissants and they were AMAZING. the police sirens are like in the movies too - it's so cool and kind of hard to realize that it's all real. i got there and his mom spoke french to me and i was freaked out but i understood her and responded with basic one answer phrases. then she offered me some hot chocolate, which i accepted. so she gave me a bowl with warm milk and some powdered chocolate....i had no idea what to do. justin told me to mix them and then sip out of the bowl. it was so wierd! i feel like i've stepped into a different world. the bathroom has 2 rooms - one with a shower and sink and one with the toilet! Justin's siblings are really nice and i think they've been instructed to speak only french with me...which is really hard. their house is amazing - i can't even describe it. but it's surrounded by this extremely green and beautiful garden and there are birds chirping outside. we went to the palace at versailles and had lunch with his parents and brother...and then we went and walked around the gardens and hung out with katie and marjolaine. it was soo nice jsut sitting out in the sunshine.
on a side note, justin's father says my name is the hardest to pronounce for french people cuz they don't say "h" or "th". so they might give me a nickname...that would be funny.
tonight we're celebrating justin's birthday with his parents...then friday's his big party. i can't wait!
i can't use AIM express...so if you wanna talk to me either email me or IM me at my MSN screenname.

You scored as Kirsten. You are a perfectionist. Be weary of being too rigid and limiting your openness to varied experiences. Neat freaks are just as irrational as slobs. A half messy person is, in fact, the ideal. Optimal evolution (according to the research) is dependent on a sufficient amount of random variation and being overly regimented inhibits variation.
